Talvez seja problema de permissão de escrita nas pastas.
Outra coisa que você poderia fazer, é abrir o arquivo wp-config.php e ativar (colocar TRUE) na constante WP_DEBUG e tentar atualizar novamente. Se for algum tipo de erro de PHP, irá aparecer.

Eu te pedi essas informações, pois em algumas pesquisas minhas, outras pessoas com o mesmo problema que o seu, disseram ser problema com a versão do PHP e tal. Mas seu PHP é atual, então…
Bom, só me resta te perguntar se você já chegou a reinstalar o seu WordPress para ver se resolve….
Lá no painel de controle, clique no menu PAINEL > ATUALIZAÇÕES e escolha “Re-instalar agora”.
Lembre-se de antes FAZER UM BACKUP GERAL!
