    Bom dia a todos.
    Estou tentando alterar uma palavra através de um gancho e não sei o que estou fazendo de errado.
    primeiro localizei o arquivo onde fica a palavra a ser alterada e encontrei o php dentro do meu tema.
    o tema aparentemente deixa um filtro para alteração da palavra através do functions.php mas não consigo usar esse filtro.

    Você precisa “receber” os parâmetros na função do seu filtro. Ou seja, ela deve ser declarada assim:

    function alterar_home($breadcrumb, $args) {
        return $breadcrumb;
    }

    Por que isso? Porque a função apply_filters está assim:
    apply_filters( $tag, $value, $param, $otherparam )

    Você não está alterando nada no valor filtrado.
    E mesmo assim, não acho que esse seria o filtro que você deve usar. Como você está tentando alterar um dos argumentos, o melhor filtro seria breadcrumb_trail_args ficando mais ou menos assim:
