Really Sad Day

It is really a sad day for me to say I am leaving this great plugin for alternatives as Recaptcha v3 is not working out for me. I hope one day the author will bring back v2 as an option and I will be happy to come back to this plugin again. Sayonara, Contact Form 7.

Too many backwards incompatible changes

Thanks for the many years of great service (and yes, we have donated) but it's time for us to move on. We've dealt with many functionality breaking internal changes (even to documented functionality) over time but this recent forced switch to google recaptcha v3 is the final straw. v3 slows page loads, has nasty privacy implications for the user and even with all that, it doesn't work nearly as well at stopping spam! Also spews that ugly recaptcha banner on every page which will sometimes hide important UI elements. We don't have the time or budget to keep going back and retrofitting sites after surprise changes. The developer is great at building a plugin that is solid at any given point in time but terrible at providing reliable hooks that developers can depend on. If they're not going to be supported, then simply don't provide them! If you just need a basic contact form and are cool with the downsides of recaptcha v3 then cf7 is fine, otherwise look elsewhere.

Contact form7 with a reCaptcha v3 is harmful

I used Contact Form 7 for 3 years. And only three months ago I was pleased. However, the forced imposition of reCaptcha v3 changed everything. Very often, Contact Form 7 started returning "Your comment is recognized as spam". And worse I realized it was late. Such a response from the contact form form will repel a potential customer. I installed an extra plugin to return the functionality of reCaptcha v2 to Contact form 7. I wanted to give the developer time to fix the error. However, he did not show a willingness to listen to consumers for 2 months. My wait time is over. Contact form7 is now uninstalled and replaced whit Everest form. I'm sorry, but I can no longer recommend Contact Form 7.
